Service Learning (Community Service), is a method of teaching and learning that combines academic work with volunteer service to the community.  It is a short-term learning experience to promote citizenship and community involvement.

Cooperative Education (Co-op), is a one-year, school-supervised, paid work experience for usually senior level high school students.  It provides students with authentic work experiences combined with related classroom instruction.

Wisconsin Skill-Certified Co-op is a one-year, school-supervised, paid work experience for junior and senior level high school students in specific career areas.  Students receive a state-endorsed skill certificate from the Department of Public Instruction upon successful completion of the program.  Students at the worksite must complete approved industry-endorsed competencies.

Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship is a two-year, school-supervised, paid work experience for high school juniors and seniors in which students learn specific industry-developed, state-approved competencies in a specific career field.  Students receive a state-endorsed Certificate of Occupational Proficiency from the Department of Workforce Development upon successful completion of the program.  Students attend a related occupational training class at a community site and can earn advance-standing credits for post-secondary education for this training.  Partners in Education coordinates the Youth Apprenticeship Program.
