Get Involved in Youth Apprenticeship

Students and employers who wish to get involved should contact Melinda Pollen, youth apprenticeship coordinator, at 920-593-3407 or e-mail mpollen@titleotwn.org. Students must be enrolled in a public or private secondary school, on target to graduate, and interested in a two-year, hands-on learning experience. Students and parents may also contact their local School-to-Work Coordinator.

Employer responsibilities include:

  • Interviewing, hiring, and providing mentors to train youth apprentices for 10 to 20 hours per week over the four semesters of the students' last years of high school
  • Paying students based on pay scale determined by the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. (The Chamber acts as the payroll agent by issuing checks, and invoicing participating businesses for payroll related expenses. This allows students to be covered by the chamber's workers' compensation insurance.)
  • Training youth apprentices to industry established skill standards
  • Allowing release time for the employee mentor(s) to attend a mentor training class
  • Adhering to all applicable state/federal child labor regulations
